Sports houses and carnivals
Upon enrolment at Taranganba students are allocated to one of our 4 sporting houses. Warrabul, Ningebul, Taroombul or Woppaburra. The sports houses at this school are named after local Indigenous groups.
House T-shirts can be purchased at our uniform shop and worn only on sports carnival days.
Captains and Vice-captains are elected from the Year 6 student group.
Major house sports events are Cross Country, Athletics and Swimming carnivals. Qualifying students from these carnivals have the opportunity to progress through subsequent levels of competition.
Interschool sport opportunities
Taranganba field several sporting teams to compete against other Capricorn Coast schools throughout the year. These include gala days for netball, rugby league, AFL and cricket. Year 5 and 6 students are eligible to be involved in interschool sport teams. Teams are selected by HPE staff through trials. Students selected for these teams are required to organise own or pay transport costs.
Our students also regularly achieve selection in Rockhampton and Capricornia representative teams. Students who achieve at representative level can apply for a small amount of financial support through our P&C Association. Information on these trials are located in our school newsletter.
Swimming
Swimming is offered in Term 1 for students in Years 3- 6 and in Term 4 for students in Years 1 and 2. These terms are concluded with a swimming carnival for the participating year levels.
Prep students are offered a week swimming block at the end of Term 4.
Students receive instruction from private qualified instructors. A fee is required for transportation and instruction.
