Interschool sport opportunities
Year 5 and 6 students are eligible to be involved in the interschool sport program.
Taranganba field several teams to compete against other Capricorn Coast schools. Year 6 compete in the Interschool Sport Challenge in Term 2 and Year 5 in Term 3. In Term 4 our Year 6 students participate in a Beach Activities Gala Day. Students are required to pay transport costs.
Taranganba students also regularly achieve selection in Rockhampton and Capricornia representative teams. Students who achieve at representative level can apply for a small amount of financial support through our P&C Association.
The sports houses at this school are named after local Indigenous groups:
Ningebul (yellow); Taroombul (red); Warrabul (blue) and Woppaburra (orange)
Families are allocated to sports houses on a random basis to ensure equal numbers as much as possible. Captains and Vice-captains are elected from the Year 6 student group. Major house sports are athletic days and swimming carnivals. House T-shirts can be worn only on sports carnival days: athletics, cross country and swimming.
Swimming is offered in Term 1 for students in Years 2, 4 and 6 in Term 4 for students in Years 1, 3 and 5. Prep students are offered a week swimming block at the end of Term 4. Students receive instruction from the Physical Education teacher and private qualified instructors. A fee is required for transportation and instruction.
