Student Support:
At TSS, we adopt a multi-tiered
system of support to ensure all students can be successful at school. A multi-tiered system of supports (MTSS)
is a proactive and preventative framework that integrates data and instruction
to maximize student achievement and support students sociall, emotional, and
behaviour needs from a strengths-based perspective.
Tier 1 - Differentiated and Explicit Instruction:
At tier 1, classroom teachers at Taranganba use instructional strategies and practices shown to be effective across the entire student population. Most students benefit from tier 1 instruction alone and teachers use differentiation to ensure all students can access and benefit from core instruction. At Taranganba, teachers utilise Universal Design for Learning as our tier 1 strategy. Teachers consider the curriculum, the learning and the learner to determine what is the best approach to the task.
Tier 2 - Focused Teaching:
At tier 2, classroom teachers and engagement teachers provide small group targeted interventions based on student needs. Often the team provides additional scaffolding, explicit instruction, time or TA support to students that are yet to grasp a concept or skill.
At Taranganba SS, we also run tier 2 programs such as Macqlit, Minilit and Letters and Sounds booster groups. Parents are notified if their student may require a specific tier 2 support through an intervention program.
Tier 3 - Intensive Teaching:
Tier 3 intensive teaching is implemented to help students with severe and persistent learning and behavioural needs. It is individualised instruction that is characterised by frequent and intensive collaborative support that involves specialist staff (GO, SLP, Physio, HOSES).
